Clay Shirky spoke at a Web 2.0 conference last week about the transformative potential of media technologies that encourage mass participation. Shirky asserts that participatory media "isn't the sort of thing society grows out of. It's the sort of thing that society grows into." This perspective isn't new, of course, but Shirky's argument is nevertheless compelling. Set aside fifteen minutes and watch the video below, or read an edited transcript of the speech.
